Sajjad Karim MEP encourages "Identity choice for all"

Speaking from the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Sajjad Karim Member of European Parliament and Legal Affairs spokesperson today encouraged people of Kashmiri origin to use the British census 2011 as an opportunity to have their identity recognised.

"It is possible within the census criteria for people to opt to define themselves as Kashmiri if they choose to do so. I strongly encourage all to complete the census and to utilise this opportunity to formally establish their Kashmiri identity."

Sajjad Karim MEP has a long history of raising awareness of the Kashmir issue and was a proponent of establishing the first Kashmir Working Group in a local authority back in 1997 when he was a councillor on Pendle Borough Council. He is also the founding chairman of the European Parliament Friends of Pakistan Group.
