The High Commissioner was joined by Manchester based Consul General Zahoor Ahmed and his Attachés. Mohammed Anwar, from the Circle of Literary Friends, and Mukhtar Hussain QC were also guest speakers at the event

The Chairman of the Conservative Party for the North West. Councillor Rob Bailey and Deputy Chairman Richard Elliott were key guests for the evening.

DSC01433 Sajjad Karim MEP gave a very warm welcome to High Excellence and guests were delighted to be able to meet and talk with both Sajjad and the High Commissioner in an informal atmosphere.

The High Commissioner thanked Sajjad for hosting the event and getting together such a wonderfully representative group of people.

He paid a warm tribute to Sajjad’s work as a Member of the European Parliament, in securing GSP+ concessionary trade status for Pakistan's exports to EU countries. This achievement was the culmination of 7 years work by Sajjad who worked with the influential Friends of Pakistan Group in the European Parliament which he started and chairs.

His Excellency was particularly pleased to meet so many professionals and business entrepreneurs who represent successful Pakistani's in the North West of England.

His message to British Pakistanis was one of  optimism for the future. Both for their lives in Britain and for Pakistan. He encouraged all to continue to live and work  peacefully,  building an even stronger relationship between the UK and Pakistan and thus rectify any negativity caused by the actions of a minority who are not representative of British Pakistanis.

Commenting Saj said "I was delighted to be able to host this event in honour of His Excellency and to introduce him to some of our  younger professional British Pakistanis from many walks of life who have worked hard to achieve the very best they can, not just for themselves and their families but for the North West, Britain and Pakistan."
