Sajjad has recorded a video message at the European Parliament in conjunction with the Intergroups on Anti-Racism and Diversity, Children’s Rights and Youth, and the International Organisation for Migration.
The video forms part of the action on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and has been posted widely on the internet.
Saj's video message together with those from other MEPs will also be used on 21st May which is the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
Speaking in the interview Sajjad said:
"Lancastrian because I was born in Lancashire. That makes me English, that makes me British, I am also European. My parents emigrated to England from Pakistan,
"I am also by religion a Muslim so like everybody in Europe I am a person with multi layers of identity but of course that is what provides us with our greatest strength - diversity!
"I have for many, many years been a direct witness of discrimination and indeed racism. I myself have very directly had experiences of both as well - as have so many people with whom I have interaction on an ongoing basis.
"Of course things have changed for the better over the past few decades but based upon recent political changes we have seen take place there is today a real need to re-energise in order to fight racism and discrimination.
I AM A MIGRANT"
