BACK TO SCHOOL FOR LOCAL MEP SAJJAD KARIM

Local Lancashire Member of the European Parliament, Sajjad Karim, recently went back to his old primary school. Sajjad grew up in Brierfield and his first school was Walter Street Primary School, now Pendle Primary Academy.

Taking a step back almost 40 years Sajjad was delighted to meet pupils in 5 classes and listen to the presentations they had prepared from their studies of inspirational figures during the academy’s Growth Mindset week. The personalities pupils had studied included Astronaut Chris Hatfield, Steve Jobs, Emmeline Pankhurst, fossil collector Mary Anning, Civil Rights activist Rosa Parks and mathematician Ada Lovelace.

Sajjad also met with the Academy Ambassadors (school council) who had been researching Sajjad over the half term, for a question and answer session about himself and his life experiences.

At the end of the morning Sajjad joined pupils for school dinner.

Sajjad really enjoyed the opportunity to return to his old school saying “I had fantastic visit. So many memories and I was really touched to be presented with a photo of my class from forty years ago! So many memories of my childhood friends and classmates came flooding back and I was most impressed with the knowledge and communication skills of the children "

Commenting on Sajjad’s visit, Principal Simon Thompson said "It is always wonderful to hear of the success stories that have come out of this school, and to welcome back past pupils who have gone on to achieve great things. The children were thrilled to meet with and make presentations to Mr Karim, and his story is an inspiration for the potential each one of them has to make a positive contribution to the world."
