North West MEP, Sajjad Karim joined civic signatories at Manchester Town Hall at a banquet luncheon in honour of President Xi Jinping visit to Manchester. Crowds of supporters gathered in Albert Sq to welcome the President.
Sajjad who is Conservative Legal Affairs Spokesman in the European Parliament, today used his annual report on subsidiarity to push for a greater role for national parliaments in the EU's law-making process which will help end the EU democratic deficit.
Sajjad yesterday met with a delegation from Saudi Arabia to discuss the tragic case of Qasim Akram, a constituent from Bolton who was tragically killed on 11th September, along with 106 other people, when a crane collapsed in the Muslim holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia
Burnley put out the flags, literally, on Saturday as Burnley Twinning Association, in conjunction with Burnley Central Library, welcomed local residents and representatives from their twinned town Vitry-sue-Seine to a very special ceremony.
"We will be bound by our own values and I believe European citizens today are wanting for us to react in a very generous way and in a way that recognises the rights of these refugees and indeed the moral responsibilities that we hold as well."
